Ruling on using the miswak during the Friday sermon

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message was received for the program from one of the listening brothers, who says: Some of the Muslims use the miswak while the preacher is delivering the Friday sermon. What is the ruling on their action? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The recommended practice (sunnah) during the sermon is to listen attentively and refrain from fidgeting. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever smoothes the pebbles, then he has engaged in Laghw.من مس الحصى؛ فقد لغى
Sunan Ibn Majah 1025Sahih (Darussalam)
It is the recommended practice to leave off the miswak, to refrain from fidgeting with movement, and to turn one’s attention to the sermon, listening attentively and with humility. This is what is most fitting for the believer. Although the miswak is prescribed (mashru’), it is prescribed in other contexts, such as when entering prayer or when performing ablution. In this situation, it is better to leave it off, because it may distract one from the required listening, just as touching pebbles or the like may distract one from it. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
