The Methodology of the People of the Sunnah and the Community Regarding the Attribute of Rising Above the Throne

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener is Abu 'Abd al-Aziz from Riyadh. He has questions regarding Allah’s rising above His Throne. He asks related questions, saying: What is the methodology of the People of the Sunnah and the Community regarding Allah’s rising above the Throne? Did Imam Abu Hanifah (may Allah have mercy on him) say that Allah is in every place with His essence? And what is the ruling on praying behind one who denies that Allah is in every place with His essence? Please answer these questions and clarify. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The methodology of the people of the Sunnah and the community, who are the Companions, the followers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and those who followed them with excellence, and it is the statement of all the messengers (peace and blessings be upon them), is that Allah is above the Throne, and His knowledge is everywhere, as Allah the Exalted said:
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.الرَّحْمَنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَى
[Taha:5] And He the Exalted said:
Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throneإِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْعَرْشِ
[Al-A'raf:54] He the Exalted mentioned this in seven places in His great Book that He is above the Throne, (Exalted and Majestic is He).
And the meaning of "above the Throne" is: above the Throne, He has risen above it, and He is settled above it, this is what the People of the Sunnah said. "Above the Throne" means: He rose and elevated Himself, and in the phrase of some of them: and He is settled. The meaning is that He is above the Throne, and the Throne is the ceiling of the created things, and it is the highest of them, and Allah is above it. This is the statement of all the people of truth, and Abu Hanifah is among those who say this (may Allah be pleased with him and have mercy on him), and he does not say that Allah is in every place, far be it from that.
Rather, this is the statement of the Mu'tazilah, the Jahmiyyah, and their like, and this is disbelief and misguidance. The one who says that Allah is in every place is a disbeliever who is misguided. We ask Allah for safety. Allah the Exalted is above the Throne, and His knowledge is in every place (Exalted and Majestic is He). He knows everything, but with His essence He is above the Throne, above all creation.
And it is obligatory for the believer to hold this belief which the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated, and upon which the Salaf of the Ummah, the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who followed them with excellence, agreed. It is not permissible to say that Allah is in every place. This is the statement of the people of falsehood, the Jahmiyyah, the Mu'tazilah, and those who follow their path. Far is Allah from that, in great exaltation. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
