Question:
The first message in this episode is one that reached the program from Buraydah, sent by one of the sisters from there. She says: I am a nurse in Umm Hazm, and my name is Wafa Muhammad Muhammad Abdul-Majid. My sister has a collection of questions, and in one of them she says: I am a woman, thirty-five years old, who has arrived in the Kingdom for the first time. When I was in Egypt, I wished to perform Hajj and 'Umrah. I have already performed 'Umrah in Ramadan, praise be to Allah. The organization where we work has arranged a trip for Hajj for a sum of money. I registered my name and paid the amount, but some people say: This is haram, it is not permissible except with a mahram. Please guide us on this matter? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows.
We ask Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) to accept the 'Umrah from us and from you, and to facilitate for you Hajj in the manner that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) is pleased with.
O sister in Allah! A woman traveling for Hajj, or anything else, without a mahram is not permissible; for it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:2565 This includes travel for Hajj and other travel. So you may not travel for Hajj except with a mahram. It is possible, if Allah wills, that this will be facilitated for you by your husband, or by one of your brothers if you have brothers, and praise be to Allah. Your excuse is clear and legitimate in the Shari'ah. So if a mahram is made available, then perform Hajj, and praise be to Allah. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. If she is with a group of women, Your Eminence the Shaykh?
The Shaykh: Even if she is with a group, the correct view is: she does not perform Hajj except with a mahram. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
