The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) combining of prayers without illness or rain

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it true that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) combined prayers without illness or rain?

Answer:
Yes, it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of Ibn Abbas: “That he combined prayers without fear, and without travel, and without fear, and without rain.” Some scholars said: He combined them for a cause that necessitated it, either illness or other causes that necessitate combining. And some said: This is abrogated; it was in the early period of Islam and then was abrogated.
The point is: It is not permissible to combine prayers except for a cause. As for the hadith mentioned, it is authentic, but it is understood to mean that he combined them for an excuse, or that it was permissible originally and then was abrogated. Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The scholars agreed on not acting upon this hadith, meaning: without an excuse, it is not permissible to combine except for an excuse, such as illness, such as rain, such as the slippery conditions in the markets, the slipperiness in the markets due to rain, one combines between them, Zuhr and Asr, and Maghrib and Isha, or if he was a traveler, there is no harm if he was traveling. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
