Advice to the Youth and Preachers on Wisdom in Calling to Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is there a word for the youth who have begun this commitment, who have started practicing the call to Allah, and who are committed to the rulings of the Sunnah? Is there a word that Your Eminence, the Shaykh, would be pleased to offer?

Answer:
Yes, we advise them to fear Allah, and to thank Allah for what He has bestowed upon them of commitment to obeying Allah and His Messenger. We advise them not to be hasty in matters, and not to be severe in ways that do not conform to the Shari'ah. Rather, we advise them to be certain, to take the middle path in matters, to avoid extremism, and to avoid harshness. Not this and not that. It is obligatory to take the middle path in matters, so no extremism and no harshness, no excess and no deficiency. Rather, if one commits to the truth by letting his beard grow, praying in congregation with tranquility, not letting his garments hang below the ankles, and not shaving his beard, he will be upright upon that, and he will ask his Lord for help and success.
And he should not be harsh with others, but rather call them to Allah with wisdom and good speech. O my brother! The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded letting the beard grow. O my brother! We advise you to let it grow. O my brother! Do not let your garments hang below the ankles. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade letting garments hang below the ankles, and forbade arrogance, with good speech and a good manner, through which the acceptance of the truth and being affected by it are hoped for. For severity may lead to repulsion, contention, and dispute. But with good speech and a good manner, much good is achieved. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says: :
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is bestادْعُ إِلَى سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ وَجَادِلْهُمْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ
[Al-Nahl: 125] Thus our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) has guided us.
And He (Exalted and Majestic is He) says in His great Book, describing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you.
[Al-Imran: 159] And Allah said to Moses and Aaron when He sent them to Pharaoh, the Exalted said:
And speak to him with gentle speech that perhaps he may be reminded or fear [Allah]."فَقُولا لَهُ قَوْلًا لَيِّنًا لَعَلَّهُ يَتَذَكَّرُ أَوْ يَخْشَى
[Ta-Ha: 44] And the Exalted says regarding the debate with the People of the Book, the Jews and the Christians:
And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among themوَلا تُجَادِلُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ إِلَّا بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مِنْهُمْ
[Al-'Ankabut: 46] If the Jews and the Christians debate in the best manner, how much more so should the Muslim? It is all the more so.
So my advice to the youth and to those other than the youth, to all who enjoin good and forbid evil, to all the preachers to Allah, my advice to everyone is gentleness in all matters, debating in the best manner, and seeking out a good, soft manner; perhaps Allah will benefit through that.
We also advise caution against violence, severity, and foul speech; for this repels people from the truth, and may cause contention, dispute, fighting, and striking. The believer's intention is good, and the caller to Allah's intention is good. It is necessary to follow the means of good. It is obligatory for the caller to Allah, and the one who enjoins and forbids, to follow the paths that help him achieve good, and help his brothers accept the truth. We ask Allah for guidance for everyone. Yes.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
