Ruling on a man marrying a woman who was breastfed with him once

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message reached the program from one of the listening brothers, ending with his words: "Your brother in Allah (M. N. 'A) asks and says: I have a cousin who was breastfed with me once. I want to marry her. Is that permissible?"

Answer:
Yes, if she was breastfed only once by your mother, or if you were breastfed once by her mother, then one suckling does not prohibit marriage, and you may marry her. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Breastfeeding once or twiceلا تحرم الرضعة، ولا الرضعتان
Sunan Ibn Majah 1940Sahih (Darussalam)
which Muslim recorded in his Sahih, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) to the wife of... Abu Hudhayfah:
Breastfeed Salimأرضعي سالمًا
The wife of Abu Hudhayfah; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the wife of Abu Hudhayfah ibn 'Utbah:
Breastfeed Salim five times; you will be forbidden to himأرضعي سالمًا خمس رضعات؛ تحرمي عليه
five times. And what is established from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "There was revealed in the Qur'an ten known sucklings that prohibit marriage, then they were abrogated by five known sucklings. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while the matter was still as such." Muslim recorded this in his Sahih, and al-Tirmidhi did so as well. This is al-Tirmidhi's wording, and Muslim's (may Allah have mercy on him) wording is: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while it was still in the Qur'an as recited."
The point is that prohibition is determined by five, contingent upon five sucklings. If the sucklings are fewer than five, then she is not prohibited. A suckling is defined as the child sucking the breast, swallowing the milk, releasing the breast, and then returning to it in the same sitting, or in other sittings, five times. This is the suckling. However, if he held the breast but it is not certain that milk was obtained, or if no milk was obtained, it is not counted. Or if there is doubt whether five were completed or not, it is not counted. It must be five known sucklings with certainty, where each suckling involves milk reaching his stomach within the two-year period before weaning.
If it is fewer than five, or after the two-year period, then it is not considered, and his breastfeeding is not valid. Or if there is doubt whether it reached five or not, or... whether the milk reached his stomach or not? Or if the wet nurse had no milk in her, and she was only occupying him so he would not cry, occupying him with the breast, but there was no milk in her, or the milk was not considered milk, having no value, not called milk, as long as only water is leaking from her, then this is not called milk. It must be milk that benefits the child, and it must be five times, or more. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
