What is the ruling on letting garments hang below the ankles in prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says: What is the ruling on letting garments hang below the ankles in prayer? Since many people let their garments hang, and they say that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) let his garments hang in prayer, what is the correctness of this statement?

Answer:
If letting hang refers to letting the hands hang down, this is contrary to the Sunnah. The Sunnah is to place the hands on the chest. This is the Sunnah. This is what is preserved from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): he places his right hand over his left hand on his chest, and he does not let them hang down. Letting them hang is called "irsal" (sending down), not "isbal" (letting hang). It is called "irsal."
As for isbal: it is letting the clothes hang below the ankles, the garments, the lower garment, and the cloak. This is called isbal. It is not permissible for a man to let his clothes hang below the ankles. As for a woman, there is no harm. As for a man letting his clothes hang below the ankles, whether it is a lower garment, trousers, a shirt, or a cloak, all of this is not permissible.
As for letting the hands hang down while praying, this is not called isbal; it is called: irsal, letting the hands hang down. And it is better to bring them together, to bring them together on the chest during prayer, before the bowing and after it. This is the Sunnah. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
