Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question from fatwa number ( 19600 )
Q3: What is the ruling on isbal?
A3: Isbal, which is wearing long garments that reach below the ankles, is forbidden for men, whether the garment is a thobe, a shirt, trousers, pants, an abaya, or anything else; due to the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whatever of the Izar comes below the ankles is in the Fire.ما أسفل من الكعبين من الإزار فهو في النار
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5331Sahih (Darussalam)
It was narrated by the Imam Ahmad and al-Bukhari , and due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Three whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor look at them, nor purify them, and for them is a painful punishment: the one who drags his garment out of arrogance, the one who gives charity and reminds the recipient of it, and the one who swears falsely to sell his goods.ثلاثة لا يكلمهم الله يوم القيامة ولا ينظر إليهم ولا يزكيهم ولهم عذاب أليم: المسبل إزاره، والمنان في ما أعطى، والمنفق سلعته بالحلف الكذب
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 17:195
It was narrated by Muslim in (his Sahih) and the Imam Ahmad in (his Musnad).
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
