Rulings on the Sacrificial Animal and Expiation in Hajj

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Tell us about every type of expiation? And about the alternative to it? And about the sacrificial animal, and the alternative to it?

Answer:
The sacrificial animals and expiations for the pilgrim and the one performing 'Umrah are varied. Upon the one who performs tamattu' with Hajj and 'Umrah, or combines Hajj and 'Umrah, there is a sacrificial animal, called: the sacrificial animal of tamattu', and this is obligatory. It is a sheep from the flock that is acceptable for the 'Id sacrifice, free from defects, acceptable for the 'Id sacrifice, one sheep, one head from the flock, or one-seventh of a camel, or one-seventh of a cow, for the one who performs tamattu' with 'Umrah to Hajj, or combines between them... And the alternative to that is fasting for ten days. If one is unable, he fasts for ten days: three days in Hajj, before 'Arafah, or on the days of Tashriq, and seven when he returns to his family. This is the alternative.
Likewise, if one leaves an obligatory act, if he leaves the state of ihram from the miqat, or leaves the stoning—stoning the pillars—or one of the pillars, like stoning the Pillar of 'Aqabah, or one of the three pillars; then a sacrificial animal is due upon him, and if he is unable to do so, fasting for ten days is sufficient for him, as with the sacrificial animal of tamattu'.
Likewise, if he wears sewn clothing while in the state of ihram, or covers his head, or shaves his head, or applies perfume intentionally, then a choice expiation is due upon him, which is: fasting for three days, or feeding six poor people, or slaughtering a sheep. The feeding is three sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg), each poor person receives half a sa' of the staple food of the land, from dates, or rice, or wheat. The details of the expiation are known in their place, in the books of the scholars. Yes.
