Ruling on making up prayers left behind after repentance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
One of the listening sisters presented a question to us before this one. She says, your sister in Allah (S. A.) from Libya, our sister is asking in this episode about a matter she has been asking about for a long time. The summary of what she asked, Your Eminence the Shaykh, is that a period of her life passed during which she would pray once and leave it once, until she counted the number of rak'ahs she had missed. So what is your guidance for her? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
She must repent, and that is sufficient, and praise be to Allah. She must repent for what has passed, and whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance. This is because leaving off the prayer is disbelief, so repentance is sufficient, and she is not required to make up the missed prayers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not require one who apostatized and then embraced Islam to make up what he missed. The Companions were likewise; when those who had apostatized embraced Islam, they did not order them to make up what they had missed.
The point is: if one embraces Islam after leaving off the prayer, then he must have sincere repentance, praise be to Allah, and righteous deeds, and that is sufficient. Allah the Exalted says:
But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.وَإِنِّي لَغَفَّارٌ لِمَنْ تَابَ وَآمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا ثُمَّ اهْتَدَى
[Ta-Ha:82]. So there is no obligation on one who embraces Islam to make up any fasting or prayer he left behind, if he had committed a nullifier of Islam, such as leaving off the prayer, or denying some of what Allah has made obligatory, such as prayer, or zakah, or the like of what is known in the religion by necessity, and upon which the Muslims have reached consensus. Everyone whom we have declared a disbeliever, and who then embraces Islam, does not make up what has passed. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
