What is the ruling on hanging Qur'anic verses on the walls for the sake of seeking blessing and also for decoration?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Please, go ahead. What do you have?

The questioner : Our Shaykh, regarding what you mentioned about fabric, covering the wall, that is fine. But regarding hanging Qur'anic verses, plaques, and the like, some people say this is a matter of seeking blessing from the Qur'an. The Qur'an is what Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) revealed, and it is a healing for people. So placing it in homes is for the sake of seeking blessing, for warding off the evil eye, and so on. Does it also fall under the category of covering the wall or decorating it?

The Shaykh : In any case: if it falls under the topic of covering, then we have already concluded that matter. But the decoration may not be apparent in it, and the predominant aspect is the first meaning you referred to, which is here.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Here we mention the saying of the scholars: "Every good is in following the Salaf, and every evil is in the innovation of the Khalaf." Decorating walls with verses for the sake of the seeking of blessing you mentioned is an innovation in the religion that was not present among the predecessors. Then we say: Allah (Mighty and Majestic) did not reveal the Qur'an for this claimed seeking of blessing, but rather Allah (Mighty and Majestic) revealed it to be understood first, and then to be acted upon second. And we know by observation that Satan, who is described in the Qur'an as an enemy to mankind, is clearly one who constantly beautifies for the enemy of man what is not beautiful, and diverts him from what is truly beautiful. This is among the meanings of the saying of some of the righteous Salaf: "No bid'ah (religious innovation) was ever introduced except that a sunnah (recommended practice) was thereby killed."
