The Shaykh’s warning against the dislike of decorating walls with Qur’anic verses and hadiths.

The questioner: May Allah reward you with good, Shaykh. There is a completion to this, meaning, let us make use of it. If your wind blows, seize it, for every storm has a calm. What is your opinion?

Another questioner : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh: The completion is that it is not prescribed to decorate walls with Qur’anic verses; it is not prescribed.

The questioner: I have heard this, but...

The Shaykh: Decorating walls with Qur’anic verses, because the Qur’an, as you know, was revealed to be acted upon, to be recited, and to be acted upon
To warn whoever is alive and justify the word against the disbelievers. لِيُنْذِرَ مَنْ كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ
[Ya-Sin 36:70]
. So using the Qur’an other than for what it was revealed for is among the deceptions of Satan upon mankind. And the deceptions of Satan upon mankind are very, very numerous and varied; they cannot be counted. Perhaps you have read, and if you have not read, at least you have heard of, the book *The Deceptions of Iblis* by Ibn al-Jawzi. Have you read it? There are types of deception by Iblis upon people there, and no one is safe from it, a scholar, let alone an ignorant person. There are new deceptions that were not in the time of the author of *The Deceptions of Iblis* by Ibn al-Jawzi. Among them, for example, is what has spread today and become widespread: the ornamentation of walls with Qur’anic verses, and sometimes with Prophetic hadiths. Recently, we were in a gathering with a group of our Salafi brothers, and we found there a plaque written in gilded reed: “Paradise is under the feet of mothers.” We reminded them that, first, this is not an authentic hadith, and its hanging implies that it is an authentic hadith. Second: it is not permissible to hang hadiths on walls except in one case: if there is an obscure hadith that is not well-known. In that case, there is no harm in writing it in a clear, ordinary script, not as the Verse of the Throne is sometimes written with interlocking letters that a reader who does not know it by memorization, who does not know it by handwriting, cannot read because of the interlocking of the lines. For the intention was not to teach those who do not know this noble verse, but rather it was for decoration and ornamentation. So we said that hanging this plaque is not befitting. And by Allah, I no longer remember whether they hastened to remove it, as our companion did, or whether they hesitated.

The questioner: They hesitated...

The Shaykh: Then we found there, what is it...

The questioner: O one who enters this house, send blessings upon the chosen Prophet.

The Shaykh: Upon the chosen Prophet. Also, it is a beautiful script, written on the left side of the gathering.
