The Obligation to Hasten to the Congregational Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: Is it obligatory for me, when I hear the adhan for the Fajr prayer and I wake up from sleep, to have missed the prayer except rarely? Is it obligatory for me, when I know that I have not caught up with the congregation, to pray at home? Or should I catch up with the mosque regardless of the situation?

Answer:
It is obligatory for you to hasten to the mosque and to be prompt in doing so; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever hears the call for prayer and and does not come (to the mosque for prayer), his prayer will not be accepted from him, unless he has a (legitimate) excuse.من سمع النداء، ولم يأت؛ فلا صلاة له إلا من عذر
Bulugh al-Maram 2:308
It was asked of Ibn Abbas: What is the excuse? He said: Illness, or fear.
A blind man came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have no guide to lead me to the mosque, so do I have a dispensation to pray in my house? He said -may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him-:
Do you hear the call to prayer?هل تسمع النداء بالصلاة؟
Sahih Muslim 653
He said: Yes. He said:
Then respond.فأجب
.
So it is upon you to respond and to hasten. If they are early, you should be early. Prepare for the prayer before the adhan, prepare for it so that you catch up with your brothers, as long as you hear the call, and the mosque is near you, you should hasten, and pray with your brothers, and beware of laziness. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
