What is the ruling on zakah in livestock if they are being fed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We conclude this session with a question from this questioner. He says: My father has a group of sheep, more than forty. He provides them with food, drink, shelter, and protection, and he sells some of them. Is there zakah on them?

Answer:
If they are grazing, there is zakah. If they are confined with him in the yard or in the house, and he feeds them, then there is no zakah on them, unless they are for buying and selling. If they are for sale, he owes zakah on their value, because they become trade goods. But if they are for milk, offspring, and benefiting from their milk and other things, then there is no zakah on them unless they are grazing... The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed about the grazing livestock regarding zakah.
If there are forty, there is one sheep up to one hundred and twenty. If it reaches one hundred and twenty-one, there are two. If it reaches two hundred and one, there are three. Then after this, for every hundred sheep, if they are grazing.
As for if they are for buying and selling, and he has sheep for buying and selling, or cows, or camels, no, they do not graze, but he feeds them and sells them, he prepares them for sale; then these have the zakah of money, the zakah of trade.

The presenter: Thank you, Your Eminence, and may Allah bless you, your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
