The ruling on zakah in livestock that are fed for half the year

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The brother Faisal al-Sa'id, from Kuwait, says in his question: A man has a large number of sheep in which zakah is obligatory. He feeds them for six months, and they graze in the open for the other six months. What is the amount of zakah due on them?
Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you.

Answer:
If they are for trade, he pays zakah on all of them. If they are for buying and selling, he pays the zakah of trade, the zakah of gold and silver; because they do not graze except for less than most of the year—half the year. However, if they graze for most of the year, he pays the known zakah of grazing livestock.
As for if they only graze for half the year or less, and he feeds them, then the zakah of trade is due on them if they are for sale. But if they are for milk and offspring, not for sale, for drinking the milk and for the milk and offspring, then there is no zakah on them if they do not graze except for half the year or less. However, if they graze for most of the year, he pays the zakah of grazing livestock. Or if they are for buying and selling for trade, he pays the zakah of trade if they do not graze for most of the year.
