The Ruling on Mocking the Commands of the Religion
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on one who mocks the believers who adhere to the Sunnah, particularly regarding the issue of the beard? He also says: What about those who raise their garments above the ankles?
Answer:
Mockery is among the ugliest of major sins and among the ugliest of evils. It is not permissible to mock a Muslim regarding what he does from the Shari'ah. If one mocks the religion with the intention that this Shari'ah is nothing or that it is a joke, he becomes a disbeliever, we seek refuge in Allah. Allah the Exalted said: [At-Tawbah: 65-66]. So, mocking the prayer, or the beards, or ... or fasting, or Hajj, constitutes disbelief and apostasy from Islam, if his intention is to mock the Shari'ah.
As for if his intention is the person himself, and not the beard, but rather mocking him in his walk or his bad behavior, this is not permissible, but it does not constitute disbelief. However, if his intention is to disapprove of the beard and to consider his action ugly, or to consider letting the garment hang below the ankles ugly, this is disbelief; because it is mockery of the Shari'ah. So, it is obligatory to be cautious of this great matter, because it is dangerous and one must be cautious of it. It is not permissible to mock anything of the Shari'ah, neither the beards, nor the prohibition of letting the garment hang below the ankles, nor the prayer, nor fasting, nor anything else. It is obligatory for the believer to submit to the Shari'ah of Allah, and to believe in it, and to revere it, and not to mock it. Yes, we ask Allah for well-being.

(65) And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" (66) Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals.
