What is the ruling on mocking the religion and those who adhere to it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Some people are lax regarding the matter of mocking some of the rulings of the religion or those who adhere to it. What is the position of the Muslim toward that?

Answer:
The position is to disapprove. Whoever mocks the religion, we disapprove of him severely. The scholars mentioned— Ibn 'Umar and a group of others mentioned—that some people among the hypocrites in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We have not seen anyone like our reciters; they have the most greedy bellies, the most lying tongues, and the most cowardly hearts when meeting the enemy!" Their words were reported to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They came to him to apologize, but the revelation preceded them. Allah revealed concerning them:
And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?"
[At-Tawbah 9:65]
Do not make excuses; you have disbelieved after you had believed [Surah al-Tawbah: 65-66].
Therefore, mocking Paradise, or the Fire, or Islam in general, or tawhid (the oneness of Allah), or prayer, or zakah (the obligatory alms), or anything of the religion: is apostasy by the consensus of the Muslims, and it is one of the nullifiers of Islam. The imams of knowledge mentioned it in the chapter on the ruling of the apostate, and Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him) Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab mentioned it in the ten nullifiers of Islam that he compiled and summarized from the words of the scholars of knowledge. He mentioned among them: mocking anything of the religion of Allah.
And whoever mocks the scholars, or the students of knowledge, or the female students of knowledge, if his intention is to mock the religion; he has committed disbelief.
As for if he mocks a student of knowledge because of the shabbiness of his clothes, or because of a defect in him: such as an illness, or something similar, or a limp; then this mockery is reprehensible, and it is not disbelief. This is reprehensible and a sin.
As for if he mocks him for his religion and his piety, then this is mocking the religion—we seek refuge in Allah—it becomes apostasy from Islam; because he mocked the religion. If he disparages the religion, and considers the religion deficient, and considers those who claim it deficient, and that those who claim other than it are more worthy and purer than them; then this is disparaging the religion, and this is what involves mocking Allah, His verses, and His Messenger.
And likewise, whoever says about Paradise: "This is a paradise of Hariml," or: "A paradise of pitch," or: "A paradise of such and such," mocking it; this is disbelief and apostasy from Islam—we seek refuge in Allah. And so with the Fire: if he mocks it, it is apostasy from Islam—we seek refuge in Allah. Or if he mocks the angels, or the messengers, or the prophets, or anything else of what Allah and His Messenger informed about.
