Question:
Allah the Exalted said:[Yunus 10:62] those who believed and used to fear Allah For them is the good news in this worldly life and in the Hereafter [Yunus: 62-64]. What is the meaning of the word "wali"? What is the good news that is for them? And what is obligatory for us Muslims toward these awliya (close friends of Allah)?
Answer:
The awliya (close friends of Allah) are the believers. Allah the Exalted said:[Yunus 10:62], and He explained them by saying: [Yunus 10:63], and He said in Surat al-Anfal: [34].
So the awliya (close friends of Allah) are the people of faith, men and women, the people of taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) and obedience to Allah and His Messenger. They are called awliya (close friends of Allah). They are not the people of superstitions from among the Sufis. No, the awliya (close friends of Allah) are the people of obedience, the people of faith and taqwa (mindfulness of Allah). Whether he is a farmer, whether he is a merchant, whether he is a slave, there is no difference in that. Whoever fears Allah and is upright upon His command, he is a wali (close friend of Allah), free or slave, man or woman, merchant or farmer, or worshipper or student of knowledge, or otherwise.
As for the superstitions of the Sufis who worship through bid'ah (religious innovation) and claim that they are the awliya (close friends of Allah), this is pure ignorance and falsehood. They are not the awliya (close friends of Allah) if they turn away from His religion and do not stand upright upon His command.
And what is obligatory upon us is to love them for the sake of Allah. It is obligatory upon the believer to love the awliya (close friends of Allah) and to be loyal to them, for they are the awliya (close friends of Allah). Loving them for the sake of Allah is the truth. He loves them for the sake of Allah, and he prays for them for steadfastness and success, and he benefits from their knowledge. If they have knowledge, he benefits from their knowledge. And for them is the good news in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. For them is the good news in this world through the good dream that is shown to them, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:. And so is the good news from Allah in His great Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger that for them is Paradise, and for them is karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person), and for them is the good news in the Hereafter. At death, they are given the good news of Paradise, and at the resurrection and rising, and in the grave; because they obeyed Allah and His Messenger and stood upright upon the religion of Allah. So for them is the good news in this world and the Hereafter of Paradise, karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person), and eternal happiness. May Allah make us and you among them.
Allah the Exalted said:
Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve
