The ruling on using snake skin for adornment and bags

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on using snake skin? Perhaps he means for adornment and bags and the like.

Answer:
The scholars differed regarding what tanning purifies:
Some held that tanning purifies all skins: snakes, bears, wolves, and others. They cited as evidence the hadith:
When the skin is tanned it becomes purified.
Sahih Muslim 366a
,
The tanning of a dead animal’s skin purifies itدباغ جلود الميتة طهورها
Bulugh al-Maram 19
,
Any skin tanned, then it has been made pure.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1728Sahih (Darussalam)
.
Others said: It is specific to what is particularly edible meat. They said: And the term *ihab* in language, as al-Nadr ibn Shumayl said: "Ihab: the skin of that whose meat is eaten specifically." And they said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The slaughter of the hide is its tanning
. This indicates that tanning only affects that in which slaughter is beneficial, unlike bears, tigers, dogs, and foxes. These are forbidden, so just as they are forbidden, their skins are likewise not purified by tanning.
So the situation is one of doubt, and the stronger view is that tanning only affects the skins of carrion; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the people when he said:
The tanning of the carrion is its purification
, and when he saw a woman with a dead sheep, he said:
Did you not take its hide and tan it so that you could benefit from it?
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 22:17
, he said:
The slaughter of the hide is its tanning
; this indicates that the intended meaning is: what relates to animals whose skins become impure by death, which are camels, cattle, and the like. As for those that are originally foul and impure: like foxes, bears, tigers, and dogs; tanning does not affect these, they remain on their original state of impurity.
This is the most cautious and stronger view in terms of evidence, and the issue, as I told you, is a matter of scholarly disagreement among the scholars.
