Is honoring an elderly shaykh conditional upon his righteousness?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is honoring an elderly shaykh required whether he is among the righteous or not?

Answer:
Each is treated according to his status:
The righteous have their due.
As for the elderly shaykh who is not among the righteous: he is honored by being kind to him, calling him to Allah, teaching him, and showing mercy to his condition. If he is poor, he is helped; if he is unable to use his cane, his cane is placed before him, and his sandals are placed before him. All of this is part of being kind.
