Clarifying the misguidance of one who lets his beard hang down because of a calamity?

The Shaykh : This reminds us of a true calamity, a new one. You see today that most men are afflicted with shaving their beards, and this is, of course, a contradiction of the Book and the Sunnah. But the greater calamity is that some have innovated the practice of letting their beards hang down when they are struck by a calamity. This is as if they feel that letting the beard hang down is itself a calamity... May Allah help us. In other words, they have made it a symbol; letting the beard hang down is a symbol that its owner is in a calamity. So we are living in calamities now!
