Question:
What is the best thing a servant should say, O Shaykh, when he is struck by a calamity?
Answer:
As Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) made clear, He the Exalted said: Those who, when a calamity strikes them, say: "Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we return." For them are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is they who are the guided. [Surat al-Baqarah: 156-157].
And in the hadith, he says:Sahih Muslim 918b, adding to his saying: Sunan Abi Dawud 3119Sahih (Al-Albani), he says: Sahih Muslim 918a or Sahih Muslim 918a.
And if he supplicates beyond that: "O Allah, make my affair easy, O Allah, compensate me with such and such, O Allah, forgive my deceased, O Allah, such and such," adding good supplications is fine. But this supplication that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said is sufficient; he came with comprehensive words:Sahih Muslim 918a If Allah replaces it with something better for him, he will have obtained what he sought, and praise be to Allah.
