What is said upon a calamity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 8860 )
Q6: I live in a house with my parents and my siblings, and between us, praise be to Allah, there is love and respect. I love my family very much, which causes me a great deal of anxiety when one of them falls ill, as I find myself unable to speak except occasionally to make du'a, and at other times I remain silent. Therefore, I think
a great deal when Allah decrees the death of one of them, so I fear for myself regarding fitnah (trial) and a lack of patience, may Allah protect us from that. Therefore, I ask you, may Allah reward you with good, to speak to me and write for me words that will remain in my memory forever.

A6: You should say upon a calamity: "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un, Allahumma ajirni fi musibati wa akhlif li khayran minha" (Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we return. O Allah, reward me in my calamity and replace it for me with something better). We advise you to review the book (Al-Adhkar) by Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him), and (Tuhfat al-Akhyar) on supplications and dhikr, which is among the works of 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
