Is the reason for the structural construction in the saying of Allah the Exalted, “O Prophet...”?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : Here, the reason for the structural construction is the indication of the one who is being addressed, yes?

The Shaykh : No, it is not a construction, yes? The reason for the vocative is that the one being addressed is intended.

The questioner : The reason for the construction?

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed, because he is intended.

The questioner : Is it the reason?

The Shaykh : Yes, how so? The reason for the construction is that the intended vocative is built on the dammah, for example: “O man” (with dammah).

The questioner : It is called the reasons for construction, here in the *Alfiyyah*.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : It resembles!

The Shaykh : That one is for the built (word), that one—may Allah bless you—is built for no reason, while this one is built for the sake of the vocative. As for the one built for no reason, which remains built however it is inflected, that is the previous reasons. However, the correct view regarding all of that is that its construction is based on hearing (sam'). They are all reasons that are themselves caused, because they are refuted, as we have passed through previously. Good.
