The reciter: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
He said, may Allah have mercy on him:
" And in the interrogative, if it is declined, its alif is deleted, and its beginning is the letter ha if you pause
And it is not obligatory in anything other than what is declined by a noun, like saying 'the requirement of what required'
When a preposition enters upon the interrogative ma"
.

The Shaykh : the interrogative ma.
The reader: " the interrogative ma, a preposition, and it is obligatory to delete its alif".

The Shaykh : its alif.
The reader: " it is obligatory to delete its alif".

The Shaykh : deletion of a possessive, and its alif is the possessed.
The reader: " When a preposition enters upon the interrogative ma, it is obligatory to delete its alif, like 'from whom you ask' and 'with what you came' and 'the requirement of what Zayd required.' And if you pause upon it after the entry of the preposition, then either the preposition is a letter or a noun. If it is a letter, it is permissible to attach the ha of pause, like 'from him' and 'in what.' And if it is a noun, it is obligatory to attach it, like 'the requirement of ha' and 'the coming of ha'".
