Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: From 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz to the honorable brother... may Allah keep him safe. Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. And after: I refer to your inquiry registered with the Department of Scholarly Research and Ifta, number 2610, dated 4/7/1407 AH, in which you mention the forgetfulness that befell your mother after her gallbladder surgery, and your request that we direct you to a Shari'ah-based treatment for what has befallen her.

A: I inform you that what has befallen your mother is by the divine decree and destiny of Allah, and the Muslim should be patient and seek reward from Allah, in accordance with the saying of Allah, the Exalted:
but give good tidings to the patient, (156) Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." (157) Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
[al-Baqarah:155-157] and His saying, the Exalted:
No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah. And whoever believes in Allah - He will guide his heart. And Allah is Knowing of all things.
[al-Taghabun:11]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allah loves a people He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure but whoever is discontent with that earns His wrath.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4031Hasan (Darussalam)
Al-Tirmidhi graded it as good.
We advise you to recite for her the opening of the Book (al-Fatihah), the Verse of the Throne, and
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
and
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreakقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
[Al-Falaq 113:1]
and
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
[An-Nas 114:1]
and other verses from the Noble Qur'an, and to repeat this every morning and evening, for Allah, the Exalted, has sent down His Book as a healing for every evil, as He, the Exalted, said:
Say, "It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure."
[Fussilat:44]. We also advise you to make the well-known, authentic supplications, such as:
"Allahumma Rabban-nasi, adhhibil-ba'sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifaan la yughadiru saqaman [O Allah! the Rubb of mankind! Remove this disease and cure (him or her)! You are the Great Curer. There is no cure but through You, which leaves behind no disease]اللهم رب الناس أذهب البأس واشف أنت الشافي لا شفاء إلا شفاؤك شفاء لا يغادر سقما
Riyad as-Salihin 902
and
In the name of Allah I exorcise you from everything and safeguard you from every evil that may harm you and from the eye of a jealous one. Allah would cure you and I invoke the name of Allah for you.
Sahih Muslim 2186
. Repeat these two supplications three times, and also supplicate for her with whatever supplication you wish besides these, and it is better if it is from what was reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We also advise you to have her examined by specialist doctors, especially those who performed the surgery on her, in case they find a treatment for her.
May Allah guide everyone to what brings Him pleasure, and heal your mother from what has befallen her, and grant everyone health and well-being. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the Responsive. And peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
