The Obligation of Forbidding Evil upon Everyone

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A woman says: I work as a nurse in a school unit, and I forbade an evil I saw in my workplace. That was the reason I was dismissed from my job, and the cause of my misery and psychological distress. I have now forbidden my children from forbidding any evil. I ask for guidance. May Allah reward you.

A: There is no doubt that what happened to you was a great error on the part of those who did it, if you forbade the evil with knowledge and insight. It is obligatory for you to forbid evil, and it does not harm you that you were dismissed from your job and they did without you. You have pleased your Lord (Mighty and Majestic), and you have done what is obligatory for you to do. All matters are in the hand of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). It is authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith.من رأى منكم منكرا فليغيره بيده، فإن لم يستطع فبلسانه، فإن لم يستطع فبقلبه، وذلك أضعف الإيمان
Sahih Muslim 49a
And Allah says in His Noble Book (Exalted and Majestic is He):
The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrongوَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍٍ يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ
[At-Tawbah: 71] And He says, the Exalted is He who speaks:
You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah.
[Al-Imran: 110]. If you did that in obedience to Allah and seeking His pleasure, then the outcome will be good for you, and what happened will not harm you. Allah will suffice you in that, and Allah is the Provider (Exalted and Majestic is He), and in His hand is all good. He is the One who said:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا * وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا يَحْتَسِبُ
[At-Talaq: 2-3]
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا
[At-Talaq: 4]
So upon the believing woman is the mindfulness of Allah , whether she is a teacher or a nurse or otherwise, and so too the doctor and the principal and the like. Upon everyone is enjoining good and forbidding evil, as is obligatory upon men, as indicated by the aforementioned verses and hadith.
And you erred in forbidding your children from forbidding evil. So fear Allah and repent to Him from that, and advise them with what Allah has made obligatory upon them.
