The ruling on shaking hands with women through a barrier

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The brother who indicated his name as R. A. Q. A. from the Scientific Institute in Hawtat Bani Tamim in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia asks: What is the ruling on shaking hands with a non-mahram woman if she is an old woman? He also asks: What is the ruling if she places a barrier of cloth or the like on her hand?

A: It is not permissible to shake hands with non-mahram women under any circumstances, whether they are young or old, and whether the one shaking hands is a young man or an old man, because of the danger of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) for both of them. It is authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
But I do not shake hands with women.إني لا أصافح النساء
Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam)
, and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
The hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman; he only took their pledge of allegiance by words.ما مست يد رسول الله ﷺ يد امرأة قط ما كان يبايعهن إلا بالكلام
.
There is no difference between her shaking his hand with a barrier or without a barrier; due to the generality of the evidence and to block the means leading to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). And success is from Allah.
