The Ruling on Obeying One's Mother in Not Fighting in the Cause of Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I love jihad, and its love has become intertwined in my heart, and I cannot bear to be without it. I asked my mother for permission, but she did not agree, and because of this, I was greatly affected, and I am unable to stay away from jihad. The Shaykh: My wish in life is to fight in the cause of Allah and to be killed in His path, and my mother does not agree. May Allah reward you with good, guide me to the appropriate path.

A: Your jihad in serving your mother is a great jihad. Stick to your mother and treat her well, unless the one in authority orders you to fight, in which case you should hasten, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
And when you are called to mobilization, then go forth
And as long as the one in authority has not ordered you, treat your mother well and have mercy on her. Know that being dutiful to her is part of the great jihad. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prioritized it over fighting in the cause of Allah, as stated in the authentic hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It was said to him: “O Messenger of Allah, which deed is the best?” He said:
Faith in Allah and His Messenger.
It was said: “Then what?” He said:
Dutifulness to parents
It was said: “Then what?” He said:
striving in the path of Allahالجهاد في سبيل الله
Sunan Abi Dawud 2486Hasan (Al-Albani)
It is agreed upon that it is authentic. Thus, he prioritized being dutiful to them over fighting. A man came to seek his permission and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I love to fight with you.” He said to him (peace and blessings be upon him):
Are your parents alive?
He said: “Yes.” He said:
So strive in them.
It is agreed upon that it is authentic. In another narration, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Go back and ask for their permission. If they permit you to go, then go for Jihad otherwise, be good to them (look after them).
Bulugh al-Maram 11:5
.
So this mother, may Allah have mercy on her, be kind to her until she grants you permission. This applies to jihad al-talab (offensive jihad) and when the one in authority does not order you to mobilize. However, if calamity befalls you, defend yourself and your brothers in Allah, and there is no power or might except with Allah. Likewise, if the one in authority orders you to mobilize, then mobilize even without her consent; for Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, what is [the matter] with you that, when you are told to go forth in the cause of Allah, you adhere heavily to the earth? Are you satisfied with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of worldly life compared to the Hereafter except a [very] little.
[At-Tawbah 9:38]
If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment and replace you with another people, and you will not harm Him in any way, and Allah is over all things competent [Surah al-Tawbah: 38-39]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And when you are called to mobilization, then go forth
It is agreed upon as authentic. May Allah guide everyone to what He loves and is pleased with.
