Treatment for One Afflicted by Diversion, Attachment, or Sorcery

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the treatment for one afflicted by diversion, attachment, or sorcery? How can a believer be saved from it so that its effect does not harm him? Are there any supplications or remembrance from the Qur'an and Sunnah for this matter?

A: There are types of treatment:
First: One looks at what the sorcerer did. If it is known that, for example, he placed some hair in a location, or placed it in combs, or in something else, and if it is known that he placed it in a specific place, this thing is removed, burned, and destroyed, thereby invalidating its effect and removing what the sorcerer intended.
Second: The sorcerer is compelled, if he is known, to remove what he did. It is said to him: "Either you remove what you did, or your neck will be struck." Then, if he removes that thing, the one in authority kills him; because the sorcerer is killed, according to the correct view, without being given the chance to repent, as 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did. It is also narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
The punishment of the Sahir is a strike of the sword.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1460Da'if (Darussalam)
And when Hafsa, the mother of the believers (may Allah be pleased with her), learned that a slave girl of hers was practicing sorcery, she killed her.
Third: Recitation, for it has a great effect in removing sorcery. One recites Surah Yunus, and in Surah Ta-Ha, along with Surah al-Kafirun, Surah al-Ikhlas, and the two Mu'awwidhat (Surah al-Falaq and Surah al-Nas). One supplicates for him for healing and well-being, especially with the supplication established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which is:
"Allahumma Rabban-nasi, adhhibil-ba'sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifaan la yughadiru saqaman [O Allah! the Rubb of mankind! Remove this disease and cure (him or her)! You are the Great Curer. There is no cure but through You, which leaves behind no disease]اللهم رب الناس أذهب البأس، واشف أنت الشافي لا شفاء إلا شفاؤك شفاء لا يغادر سقما
Riyad as-Salihin 902
And among that is what Jibril (Gabriel) used to recite for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which is:
In the name of God I am applying a charm to you from everything which may harm you, from the evil of every evil eye, or eye of an envious one. God heals you. In the name of God I am applying a charm to you.
Mishkat al-Masabih 1534
This ruqyah is repeated three times, and the recitation of:
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
and (the two Mu'awwidhat) is repeated three times.
Among that is that one recites what we mentioned in water, and the one afflicted by sorcery drinks from it, and bathes with the remainder once or more as needed. It will be removed by the permission of Allah the Exalted. The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) mentioned this, as did Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) in his book: (Fath al-Majid Sharh Kitab al-Tawhid) in the chapter (What Came Regarding the Removal of Sorcery), and others mentioned it as well.
Fourth: One takes seven leaves from the green sidr tree, grinds them, and puts them in water. One recites in it the aforementioned verses, surahs, and supplications. One drinks from it and bathes. Similarly, this is beneficial in treating a man who is prevented from his wife; the seven leaves from the green sidr tree are placed in water, the aforementioned is recited in it, then he drinks from it and bathes. It is beneficial by the permission of Allah, Exalted and Majestic is He.
The verses recited in the water and the green sidr leaves for those afflicted by sorcery, and for one who is prevented from his wife and does not have intercourse with her, are as follows:
1 - Reciting Surah al-Fatihah.
2 - Reciting the Verse of the Throne from Surah al-Baqarah, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
[al-Baqarah: 255].
3 - Reciting the verses from Surah al-A'raf, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
[Pharaoh] said, "If you have come with a sign, then bring it forth, if you should be of the truthful."
[Al-A'raf 7:106]
So he threw his staff, and behold, it was a clear serpent. And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to the onlookers. The chiefs of the people of Pharaoh said, "Indeed, this is a skilled sorcerer. He intends to drive you out of your land. So what do you command?" They said, "Postpone him and his brother, and send into the cities those who will gather every skilled sorcerer to you." And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh and said, "Indeed, for us is a wage if we are the prevailing ones." He said, "Yes, and you will be among those brought near." They said, "O Moses, either you throw or let us be the ones to throw." He said, "Throw." And when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and made them fear them, and they came with a great sorcery. And We revealed to Moses, "Throw your staff," and behold, it was swallowing what they fabricated. So the truth was established and what they were doing was invalidated. So they were overcome there and returned in humiliation. And the sorcerers were cast down prostrating. They said, "We believe in the Lord of the worlds, the Lord of Moses and Aaron." [al-A'raf: 106 - 122].
4 - Reciting verses from Surat Yunus, which are the words of Allah the Exalted:
And Pharaoh said, "Bring to me every learned magician."
[Yunus 10:79]
When the magicians came, Moses said to them, "Cast what you are going to cast."When they cast, Moses said, "What you have brought is sorcery. Indeed, Allah will render it void. Indeed, Allah does not make the work of corrupters successful."And Allah establishes the truth with His words, even if the criminals hate it.[Yunus: 79 - 82].
5 - Reciting verses from Surat Ta-Ha, which are the words of Allah the Mighty and Majestic:
They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw."
[Taha 20:65]
[Ta-Ha: 65 - 69].
6 - Reciting Surah al-Kafirun.
7 - Reciting Surah al-Ikhlas and the two Mu'awwidhat: which are Surah al-Falaq and Surah al-Nas (three times).
8 - Reciting some of the lawful supplications, such as:
Adhhibil-bas, Rabban-nas, washfi Antash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka shifa’an la yughadiru saqama (Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness)اللهم رب الناس، أذهب البأس، اشف أنت الشافي، لا شفاء إلا شفاؤك، شفاء لا يغادر سقما
Sunan Ibn Majah 3520Sahih (Darussalam)
(three times). This is good. And if he recites with that:
In the name of God I am applying a charm to you from everything which may harm you, from the evil of every evil eye, or eye of an envious one. God heals you. In the name of God I am applying a charm to you.
Mishkat al-Masabih 1534
(three times), this is good.
And if he recites the aforementioned directly on the one afflicted by sorcery and blows on his head or his chest, this is also among the causes of healing by the permission of Allah, as mentioned previously.
