The Reality of the Occurrence of Sorcery and How to Treat It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first message in this episode is from our brother 'Atiyyah al-Juhani from Jeddah. We had previously broadcast two of his questions, and now we are broadcasting or presenting the remaining questions. He says: I heard one of the scholars say that if a person suspects that sorcery has been performed on him, he should take seven leaves of the sidr tree, place them in a bucket of water, and recite over them the two chapters of seeking refuge (al-Mu'awwidhatan), the Verse of the Throne, the chapter
Say: O you disbelievers!
, and the saying of Allah the Exalted:
that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marutوَمَا أُنزِلَ عَلَى الْمَلَكَيْنِ بِبَابِلَ هَارُوتَ وَمَارُوتَ
[al-Baqarah: 102], and the chapter al-Fatihah. What is the validity of this, and what should a person do if he suspects he has been subjected to sorcery? Please inform us; may Allah reward you.
Answer: Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows: There is no doubt that sorcery is a reality, and that it occurs and has an effect by the permission of Allah , as He said regarding the sorcerers:
But the two angels do not teach anyone
[al-Baqarah: 102], meaning the two angels:
unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah.
[al-Baqarah: 102]. So sorcery has an effect, but it is by the permission of Allah the Creator (Glorified and Exalted is He), for there is nothing in existence except by the decree and destiny of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). However, this sorcery has a treatment and a remedy. It occurred to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Allah delivered him from it and saved him from its evil. They found what the sorcerer had done, and it was taken and destroyed, so Allah cured His Prophet from it (peace and blessings be upon him). Likewise, if what the sorcerer has done is found—such as the tying of knots or the binding of nails to one another or the like—then that is destroyed; for it is the practice of sorcerers to blow into the knots and strike them and blow into them for their malicious purposes. So what they intend may be accomplished by the permission of Allah, or it may be nullified. Our Lord is capable of all things (Glorified and Exalted is He).
Sometimes sorcery is treated by recitation, whether the person afflicted by it recites it himself, provided his mind is sound, or someone else recites it over him, blowing on his chest or any of his limbs. He recites over him Surat al-Fatihah, the Verse of the Throne, and Say, He is Allah, the One, the two chapters of seeking refuge, and the well-known verses of sorcery from Surat al-A'raf, Surat Yunus, and Surat Ta-Ha. From Surat al-A'raf, He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
(117) And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. (118) So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. (119) And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased.
[al-A'raf:117-119], and from Surat Yunus, He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
(79) And Pharaoh said, "Bring to me every learned magician." (80) So when the magicians came, Moses said to them, "Throw down whatever you will throw." (81) And when they had thrown, Moses said, "What you have brought is [only] magic. Indeed, Allah will expose its worthlessness. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of corrupters. (82) And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it."
[Yunus:79-82], and from Surat Ta-Ha, He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
(65) They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw." (66) He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes]. (67) And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses. (68) Allah said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior. (69) And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is."
[Ta-Ha:65-69]. He also recites Surat al-Kafirun
Say: O you disbelievers!
to its end, and Surat
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
, and
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreakقل أعوذ برب الفلق
[Al-Falaq 113:1]
, and
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,قل أعوذ برب الناس
[An-Nas 114:1]
. It is better to repeat Surat
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
and the two chapters of seeking refuge three times, then supplicate for his healing:
"Allahumma Rabban-nasi, adhhibil-ba'sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifaan la yughadiru saqaman [O Allah! the Rubb of mankind! Remove this disease and cure (him or her)! You are the Great Curer. There is no cure but through You, which leaves behind no disease]اللهم رب الناس أذهب البأس واشف أنت الشافي لا شفاء إلا شفاؤك شفاءً لا يغادر سقماً
Riyad as-Salihin 902
, and repeat this three times:
Allahumma Rabban-nasi, adhhibil-ba'sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifaan la yughadiru saqaman [O Allah! the Rubb of mankind! Remove this disease and cure (him or her)! You are the Great Curer. There is no cure but through You, which leaves behind no disease]رب الناس أذهب البأس واشف أنت الشافي لا شفاء إلا شفاؤك شفاءً لا يغادر سقماً
Riyad as-Salihin 902
, meaning: illness, and so on. He treats him by saying:
In the name of Allah I exorcise you from everything and safeguard you from every evil that may harm you and from the eye of a jealous one. Allah would cure you and I invoke the name of Allah for you.
Sahih Muslim 2186
and repeats it three times, and supplicates for his healing and well-being. If he says in his ruqyah:
I take refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created
Sunan Abi Dawud 3898Sahih (Al-Albani)
and repeats it three times, that is good. All of this is beneficial medicine. If he recites these verses and supplication over water, and the person afflicted by sorcery drinks from it, bathes with the rest, and sprinkles it on himself, this is also a means of healing and well-being. If he puts seven leaves of green sidr in the water, grinds them, and puts them in the water, this is also a means of healing. This has been tried often, and Allah has benefited people through it. We have done this with many people, and Allah benefited them thereby. This is beneficial and effective medicine for those afflicted by sorcery. Likewise, this medicine benefits the one who is prevented from his wife, because some people may be prevented from their wives for reasons and are unable to have intercourse with them. If he comes with these verses and this supplication, whether he recites it over himself, or someone else recites it over him, or he recites it over water and then drinks from it and bathes with the rest, or he puts seven sidr leaves on it and recites what was mentioned over it and then bathes with it, all of this is beneficial by the permission of Allah for the one afflicted by sorcery and the one prevented from his wife. Healing is in the hand of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He); these are merely means. And success is from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and everything is in the hand of He (Exalted and Majestic is He). The medicine and the disease are all by His decree and divine decree . He has not sent down a disease except that He has made for it a healing, as a favor from Him (Glorified and Exalted is He), but its knowledge is known to those He has given knowledge, and its ignorance is known to those He has given ignorance. And success is from Allah.
The presenter: May Allah bless you and reward you with good!
