Ruling on breaking the binding sorcery on the husband on the wedding night

Q: It happens among us in Egypt that every person, when he marries, does not fulfill his duty toward his wife on his first wedding night, on the pretext that there is sorcery, which they call: a binding, or bound, or a tie, meaning: that he is bound away from his wife and something is required to break it. Is this correct?

A: That is not obligatory, but it may occur. Some people may be afflicted by being bewitched by others with something that prevents them from their wives, due to the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) : the verse [al-Baqarah:102]. However, if he uses the prescribed forms of seeking refuge, Allah will suffice him against the evil of sorcerers and others, and Allah will remove it from him whenever it is found. He should recite for himself Ayat al-Kursi, al-Fatihah, the verses of sorcery, Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad, and the two Mu'awwidhat (chapters of seeking refuge), and it will disappear by the permission of Allah. This has been tried many times. A good reciter from among the people of goodness and righteousness, from whom good is expected, may recite this in water, and he drinks from it and bathes with it, and the harm goes away from him. Or he may recite over him and blow upon him with it, and Allah will cure him of it. All of this is among the means of well-being.
