The ruling on using the word (bi-l-‘awn) for emphasis and swearing

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: A message was received by the program from Bisha, sent by one of the brothers from there. He says: My companion, Ali San‘i al-Shahrani, says: We use the word bi-l-‘awn to emphasize a thing. It is said that bi-l-‘awn is the name of an idol that the polytheists used to worship, and that it is in the region of Bisha, Tabalah. Do we fall into shirk (associating partners with Allah) if we repeat that phrase?
The answer: This is a word that is on the tongues of many Bedouins and others. I do not know its origin; whether its origin is that there is an idol called by this name or not. But in any case, it should be left off; because swearing is done by Allah alone. One says: By Allah, or by the Most Merciful, or by my Lord, or by our Lord, or something similar, and the word bi-l-‘awn is left off. There is no need for it; because ‘awn is a word whose meaning is not known to the one who swears by it. It is a verbal noun from the verb ‘ana, ya‘inu, ‘awnan, a verbal noun from ‘ana. So it is better, indeed it is obligatory, to leave that off; because swearing by this action, which is ‘awn, is not permissible. It falls under the hadith:
He who swears by anyone but Allah is polytheist.من حلف بغير الله فقد أشرك
Sunan Abi Dawud 3251Sahih (Al-Albani)
and it falls under the other hadith:
He who must take an oath, may do so by swearing in the Name of Allah or he should remain silent.من كان حالفًا فلا يحلف إلا بالله أو ليصمت
Riyad as-Salihin 1707
Like the saying of some of them: By the tricks? The saying of some people: By the tricks, is like this. It should be left off and it is not permissible to do it; because this is a type of swearing; because they intend by it the emphasis of speech. By the tricks, by the aid. These words should be left off. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
