The ruling on supplication and raising the hands after the obligatory prayers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The listener Ali Muhammad Abd al-Rahman from Jeddah sent a message containing three questions. In his first question, he asks: Is supplication after every prayer and raising the hands disliked? Is it an innovation?
Answer: Supplication after the prayer is not disliked; rather, it is recommended. It is permissible for one to supplicate between himself and his Lord at the end of the prayer and after the prayer, following the dhikr. All of this is reported in the hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). If he supplicates at the end of the prayer before the taslim, that is better. If he supplicates after the taslim and after the dhikr, there is no harm in it between him and his Lord.
As for supplication being collective, either by the congregation or with the imam, this is not prescribed; rather, it is an innovation. Likewise, doing it with raising the hands is an innovation after the obligatory prayers. It is not recorded that he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands after the five obligatory prayers, and it is not recorded from his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), as far as we know. Therefore, people should not innovate something that the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions did not do. However, there is no harm in supplication; supplication between a person and his Lord, before the taslim or after the taslim, is permissible.
As for raising the hands by the congregation, or by the imam, or by everyone for supplication, all of this is an innovation. Likewise, if they all supplicate collectively or perform dhikr collectively, it is an innovation. Each person should supplicate to Allah in his heart and for himself, without any need for another person to be with him raising his voice. We ask Allah for guidance for everyone. Yes.
