The ruling on the wudu of one who shakes hands with a disbeliever and the ruling on inviting him to a meal
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He asks a second time and says: If a man performs wudu for prayer and encounters a Christian or a Jew on his way and shakes hands with him, does his wudu become invalid? And what is the ruling on inviting a Christian to eat in a Muslim's house?
Answer: If he shakes hands with a Christian, a Jew, or any other disbeliever, his wudu does not become invalid; he remains in a state of purity. However, he is not permitted to shake hands with them, nor is he permitted to initiate the greeting of peace to them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 2167a, and shaking hands is more severe. If he does not initiate the greeting, then shaking hands is even more severe. Therefore, he should not initiate the greeting to them, nor shake hands with them. But if they initiate the greeting and shake hands with him, there is no harm in reciprocating. As for him initiating it, he should not initiate it.
As for inviting him to a feast, or inviting him to a meal, this is subject to detail. If he invited him to encourage him in Islam, to advise him, and to guide him to Islam with a good intention, or because he is a guest who has stayed with him, then there is no harm. But if he invites him to a meal for the sake of friendship and companionship, that is not permissible for him; because there is enmity and hatred between him and them. Yes.
