Ruling on the Fasting of a Woman Who Shook Hands with a Non-Mahram Man

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A letter reached the program from one of the female listeners, (M. K. M.) from the Arak Governorate. She says in her letter: I was fasting, and my brother's friend came and shook my hand, even though I tried to avoid it, and Allah is a witness to this. Do I have to make up the fast?

Answer:
Shaking hands with a non-mahram woman is not permissible. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
But I do not shake hands with women.إني لا أصافح النساء
Sunan Ibn Majah 2874Sahih (Darussalam)
And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
By Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never touched the hand of a woman—meaning: in the pledge of allegiance—he never pledged with them except by words.والله ما مست يد رسول الله ﷺ يد امرأة قط -يعني: في البيعة- ما كان يبايعهن إلا بالكلام
And he is the master of creation and the most perfect of them in faith.
Thus, people should conduct themselves with the manners prescribed by the Shari'ah, and they should not shake hands with women unless the woman is a mahram to them, such as their sister, their aunt, or the like.
As for the fast, it is not invalidated by this, nor is it spoiled by this. The fast is valid, and shaking hands with a non-mahram man does not invalidate the fast, whether it is the husband's brother, the sister's husband, or the like. However, it is not permissible; one must abandon it and beware of it, unless semen is emitted from her during the handshake; in that case, she must make up that day. This is because shaking hands is a type of physical contact. If she physically contacts a man, and semen is emitted from her during the physical contact of shaking hands, or from kissing her husband, for example, and semen is emitted from him or from her, then the fast is invalidated, and she must make it up. She must hold back, and the man must hold back; he does not break his fast.
However, if he physically contacts his wife, or a non-mahram woman who is forbidden to him—may Allah protect us from that—and semen is emitted, then he must make up that day along with repentance. Likewise, if a woman shakes hands with a person, or kisses her husband, or touches him, or repeatedly looks at a person and fears [emission], then she must make up the fast. This is the position of the majority of scholars. Yes.
