Finally, the brother Sulayman from al-Madinah al-Munawwarah asks and says: There is an issue, which is that we come and sign in for attendance at the department, and we spend some time there and some other time we spend on our personal affairs and arranging our work. The manager and most of the department employees are usually traveling most of the time. So, is the salary lawful or forbidden? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: It is obligatory for the believer to fulfill the trust, for jobs are a trust, and they have a known duration and a known time. So, it is obligatory that they be performed in their time, and that one preserves the time and performs the work, even if there is no work waiting for him; he remains at work until he waits until work is assigned to him, or a visitor comes to see him. So, he has no right to neglect that except by permission from his superior, or by something that is customary and known to be excused, in which there is no dispute among everyone, and it is not hidden, but rather it is a known matter. This is an exception if something is found that the state has agreed to and permitted for a specific matter whose reasons are known. Otherwise, the original ruling is the obligation to preserve attendance, and to perform this trust with all care, from its beginning to its end. And it is not permissible for you to neglect that, for you are a hired worker and you have a wage, so you must adhere to the causes of its lawfulness and beware of the causes of its prohibition. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
