The Meaning of Nisab in Zakah, and the Difference Between Spending and Zakah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He says, O Shaykh, this questioner asks: What is the meaning of reaching the nisab in zakah? Is zakah different from spending (infaq)? Because spending is mentioned many times in the third part of Surat al-Baqarah?
Answer: Nisab is not the same as spending. Spending: one spends from the wealth Allah has given him, other than zakah. As for zakah, it is something Allah made obligatory for eight specific categories, which Allah mentioned in Surat al-Tawbah:
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah]إِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَالْعَامِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا...
[At-Tawbah 9:60]
the verse [al-Tawbah:60]. And zakah differs in currency: it is one-quarter of one-tenth, meaning: one share out of forty. This is in currency, gold, silver, and trade goods: one share out of forty, one-quarter of one-tenth.
And in grains and fruits, if they are watered by irrigation machines and the like, it is half of one-tenth, meaning: one share out of twenty. And if they are watered by rain, the crops being watered by rain and rivers, then it is the full one-tenth, one out of ten, all of it. Ten, one, meaning: ten wasqs contain the one-tenth, and so on in grains and fruits.
As for camels, cattle, and sheep, they have a specific zakah that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) specified, if they are grazing freely. So camels have a zakah, sheep have a zakah, and cattle have a zakah, detailed in the books of scholars and in authentic hadiths. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
