To Whom Zakah Is Paid, Its Timing, and Its Nisab

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 16045 )
Q4: In which month is the zakah on wealth paid out, to whom is the zakah given, and what is the nisab for a merchant? I read in a book that the nisab is a quarter of a dirham from two hundred dirhams, and we do not know this weight, so how much is it equivalent to in our currency or otherwise?
A dirham from two hundred dirhams, and we do not know this weight, so how much is it equivalent to in our currency or otherwise?

A4 : As for the zakah of wealth, if it is from grains and fruits, it becomes obligatory at the time of harvesting and picking. If it is currency, trade goods, or livestock, the zakah becomes obligatory upon the completion of the lunar year. The zakah is given to the categories mentioned in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needyإِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ
[At-Tawbah 9:60]
the verse. If one restricts it to a single category, that suffices. The amount of the nisab for currency is two hundred Islamic dirhams, which is one hundred and forty mithqals of silver. In Saudi silver riyals, this is fifty-six riyals, or the equivalent value in the paper currency known today. The obligatory amount for the nisab and anything above it is one-quarter of a tenth, meaning: two and a half riyals from every one hundred riyals. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
