Is ejaculation outside the wife's vagina forbidden?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first message in this episode came from listener (N. M.) from Iraq, Nineveh Governorate, Mosul city. Listener (N. M.) says in his message: Is it forbidden for a married man to ejaculate outside the woman's vagina, especially in the case of menstruation or childbirth? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and blessings and peace be upon His servant and messenger, His choice from among His creation, and His trustee over His revelation, our Prophet, our Imam, and our Master Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and whoever follows his path and is guided by his guidance until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows: Ejaculating outside the vagina is permissible if there is a benefit, and this is called 'azl (coitus interruptus). It is established from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them and grant them satisfaction) that they used to practice 'azl, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved of them. So if the need arises for 'azl, such that he ejaculates outside the vagina, either because he does not desire pregnancy at that time, or for the reason mentioned by the questioner, which is that intercourse is forbidden for him, he places his penis around her vagina and ejaculates outside without having intercourse. There is no harm in that, because what is forbidden is intercourse. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the menstruating woman:
Do everything except intercourseاصنعوا كل شيء إلا النكاح
Sahih Muslim 302
meaning: except for intercourse. So he may have physical contact with her through kissing, embracing her, and enjoying her vagina, her belly, and other parts, but it is better that she wears a garment or underwear to avoid the danger. For whenever he has contact around the vagina, Satan may prick him and urge him toward the forbidden intercourse. So the best is that he has contact with her from behind a garment, underwear, or shirt. 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to order one of us, when he desired to have contact with her while she was menstruating, to order her to wear a garment, so he would have contact with her while she was menstruating.كان النبي ﷺ يأمر إحدانا إذا رغب أن يباشرها وهي حائض يأمرها أن تتزر، فيباشرها وهي حائض
Thus 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said.
The point is that the Sunnah for the husband, if the woman is menstruating or in post-natal bleeding, is to have contact with her from behind a garment or from behind underwear or the like. But if he has contact with her from inside the garment and inside the underwear, there is no blame on him for this. For there is what indicates this in the Sunnah, due to his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:
Do everything except intercourseاصنعوا كل شيء إلا النكاح
Sahih Muslim 302
When it was said to him: "The Jews, when a woman among them menstruates, do not eat with her, do not drink with her, and do not share a house with her," he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do everything except intercourseاصنعوا كل شيء إلا النكاح
Sahih Muslim 302
meaning: differ from the Jews. The meaning of "except for intercourse" is: except for sexual intercourse. So if he places his penis on her thigh and ejaculates outside the vagina, there is no harm. But he does not have the right to have intercourse; rather, intercourse is forbidden for him. Whether he ejaculates or not, he must avoid intercourse. As for his placing his penis on her thigh or near her vagina but not inserting it until he ejaculates, there is no harm in that. But the best for him, the more preferable, and the safest is to avoid this, lest Satan drive him to the forbidden intercourse. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the women to wear a garment when he desired to have contact with them (peace and blessings be upon him). This is the best and the safest. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah bless you and reward you with good.
