The Two Rak'ahs of Ishraq and Their Inclusion in the Dhuha Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Our sister asks and says: We ask your Eminence to explain the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever sits remembering Allah after Fajr until the sun rises, and then prays to Allah two rak'ahs, and does not engage in self-talk in them with any matter of this world, Allah will write for him the reward of a complete Hajj and 'Umrah, complete, complete, complete.من جلس يذكر الله بعد الفجر حتى تشرق الشمس فيصلي لله ركعتين لا يحدث فيهما نفسه بأمر من أمور الدنيا إلا كتب الله له أجر حجة وعمرة تامتين تامتين تامتين
Are the two rak'ahs the two rak'ahs of Dhuha?

Answer:
Yes, it is true that they are the Dhuha prayer. If one sits after the prayer to remember Allah, or to read the Qur'an, or to learn knowledge, and then prays two rak'ahs after the sun has risen, he attains this great good.
And I do not know that in them:
without allowing his thoughts to be distractedلا يحدث فيهما نفسه
Sahih Muslim 226b
, this came in another hadith where if one prays two rak'ahs as a prescribed prayer, he attains this reward. As for the phrase:
without allowing his thoughts to be distractedلا يحدث فيهما نفسه
Sahih Muslim 226b
, this came in another hadith, the hadith of 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding one who performs wudu like the wudu of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
and then offered two rakhahs of prayer without allowing his thoughts to be distracted, Allah will pardon all his past sins.ثم صلى ركعتين بعد الوضوء لا يحدث فيهما نفسه غفر الله له ما تقدم من ذنبه
Sunan Abi Dawud 106Sahih (Al-Albani)
, this is in the sunnah of wudu.
And what is prescribed in all prayers is to focus on the prayer and not to engage in self-talk in all prayers, whether voluntary or obligatory. It is prescribed in all of them that the believer should focus on his prayer, be humble in it, and beware of engaging in self-talk. He should strive against his self in these matters until his heart is free for humility in his prayer and focus on it, whether voluntary or obligatory, and the obligatory is more important. Allah the Exalted said:
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۝
[Al-Mu'minun 23:1]
THEY ARE HUMBLE IN THEIR PRAYERS, and this encompasses both the obligatory and the voluntary prayers, but the obligatory is more important and greater. So it is obligatory for the believer to take care of his prayer, and to pray a complete prayer with tranquility in it, so that he performs it as Allah has prescribed it. And if he strives for humility, it is more perfect. Humility is achieved by the humility of the heart, the humility of the limbs, and leaving off playfulness, focusing with his heart and his body, with his heart and his body, on the prayer until he is humble before his Lord. The minimum of this is the obligatory tranquility. The least thing is that he be tranquil in his bowing, prostration, sitting between the two prostrations, and standing up after bowing. Tranquility is necessary; if he neglects it, the prayer is invalid. If he neglects it and does not be tranquil in it, it is invalid. It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he saw a Bedouin who entered the mosque and prayed but did not complete his prayer, so he ordered him to repeat the prayer three times, because he had not perfected it or completed it. So the Bedouin said:
O Messenger of Allah, by Him who sent you with the truth as a Prophet, I do not know anything else, so teach me. So he said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): When you stand for prayer, perfect your wudu -meaning complete the wudu- then face the qiblah and say takbir, then read what is easy for you from the Qur'anيا رسول الله والذي بعثك بالحق نبياً لا أحسن غيرها فعلمني، فقال له ﷺ: إذا قمت إلى الصلاة فأحسن الوضوء -يعني كمل الوضوء- ثم استقبل القبلة فكبر، ثم اقرأ ما تيسر معك من القرآن
, and in another narration:
Then read the Ummul-Qur'anثم اقرأ بأم القرآن
Bulugh al-Maram 2:145
meaning the al-Fatihah -,
and then bow with calmness till you feel at ease, then rise from bowing till you stand straight. Afterwards prostrate calmly till you feel at ease and then raise (your head) and sit with Calmness till you feel at ease and then prostrate with calmness till you feel at ease in prostration and do the same in the whole of your prayer.
Sahih al-Bukhari 793
thus the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him. So it is obligatory for all those who pray to take care of this matter, tranquility and not neglecting it, and it is prescribed that the state be more perfect by being humble with his heart and his body. End.
