The Prohibition of Letting the Garment or Trousers Hang Below the Ankles and Other Matters
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner says, O Shaykh: How can a man reconcile the hadiths regarding letting the garment hang below the ankles? Does his prayer truly not get accepted? And is what is below the ankles in the Fire, or is that a prohibition of the act out of arrogance? What is the ruling on letting trousers hang below the ankles if there is no arrogance—that is, if a man lets his trousers hang below the ankles without intending arrogance? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
It is obligatory not to let the garment hang below the ankles, even if one does not intend arrogance. It is obligatory for the believer to raise his garments so that they do not go below the ankles; this applies to the man. As for the woman, there is no harm, based on his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying:Sunan an-Nasa'i 5331Sahih (Darussalam), and his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: . Arrogance was not made a condition, but if arrogance is present, the sin becomes greater. Therefore, it is obligatory to be cautious of letting the garment hang below the ankles in all cases, even without the intention of arrogance, because it is a means to arrogance, and because the matter of arrogance concerns the hearts, which no one knows except Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He), and because it is corruption that leads to defiling the garments and dirtying them, and it leads to pride. May Allah help us.

ما أسفل من الكعبين من الإزار فهو في النارThree people whom Allah will not complete for them [their faith] and will not look at them on the Day of Resurrection and will not purify them, and for them is a painful punishment: the one who lets his garment hang below the ankles, the one who is stingy in what he gives, and the one who sells his goods with a false oath.
ثلاثة لا يكملهم الله ولا ينظر إليهم يوم القيامة ولا يزكيهم ولهم عذاب أليم: المسبل إزاره، والمنان فيما أعطى، والمنفق سلعته بالحلف الكاذب
