The ruling for one afflicted with urinary incontinence when he wishes to pray
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The listener (K. S. 'A.) from the Libyan Jamahiriya sent a message saying: I am seventeen years old, afflicted with urinary incontinence, and I am unable to maintain the validity of my ablution until I can complete the prayer. How do you advise me? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer: The one afflicted with incontinence performs ablution when the time enters, just as the woman with istihadah (irregular non-menstrual bleeding) does. When the time enters, he cleans himself and performs the ablution for prayer, and he prays even if something comes out of him, just as the woman with istihadah who has continuous bleeding performs ablution when the time enters. That is, she cleans herself, performs the ablution for prayer, and protects herself with something, and she prays for the entire time. If she performs ablution for the midday prayer, she prays the midday prayer, she prays the voluntary prayers, and she reads from the mushaf (written copy of the Qur'an) even if something comes out, until the next time arrives, and so on. Whenever a time arrives, she cleans herself and performs the ablution for prayer if something has come out.
And so, the one with incontinence, when the time enters, performs the ablution for prayer. If he cleans himself, protects himself with something, and performs the ablution for prayer, then he prays whatever he wishes of the voluntary prayers in that time until the next time arrives. If the next time arrives and something has come out of him, he repeats the ablution; he cleans himself and repeats the ablution.
As for if Allah grants him safety and nothing comes out, there is no repetition required of him, and his ablution is valid. He prays with it in the next time, and there is no blame on him.
The point is: he is like the woman with istihadah in this practice. He performs ablution for every prayer, just as the one with incontinence does if he has continuous urination.
And so, the woman who has continuous fluid from her private parts performs ablution for the time of every prayer, like the woman with istihadah. If the time for the dawn prayer enters and the dawn breaks, she performs ablution for the dawn prayer; she cleans herself and performs ablution for the dawn prayer. And if the time for the midday prayer enters and the sun passes its zenith, likewise she cleans herself and then performs the ablution for prayer for the midday prayer. She prays the voluntary prayers until the afternoon prayer, and she reads from the mushaf likewise. Then, if the time for the afternoon prayer enters, she repeats the ablution if something has come out; she cleans herself and repeats the ablution. And so for the sunset prayer, and so for the night prayer. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
