The ruling on one who leads people in prayer and prostrates without bowing due to forgetfulness
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
From one of the listening brothers, Jamal Hamud al-Mukhadhari from Yemen, the question says: What is the ruling on one who leads people in congregational prayer, then forgets and prostrates without bowing? Is his prayer invalid or valid?
Answer: If they alert him, he returns, stands up, and performs the bowing. He stands up, straightens himself, then says the takbir and bows.
As for if they did not alert him until after the closing salam, he performs a rak'ah. He stands up and performs a complete rak'ah, then sits for the tashahhud, completes it, sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and makes supplication, then prostrates two prostrations for forgetfulness, then says the salam.
As for if he did not remember until a long interval had passed, he repeats the entire prayer, and informs those with him to repeat the prayer. Those with him who did not bow repeat it, because their prayer is invalid due to the long interval. As for if he became aware after the salam, or the congregation alerted him, he stands up and performs a complete rak'ah, and after finishing the tashahhud and supplication, he prostrates two prostrations for forgetfulness, then says the salam. Yes.
