The Best Time for Reciting the Qur'an
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
From the listener Ali Hussein from Iraq, a letter containing a collection of questions, one of which says: Regarding the recitation of the Qur'an, what is the preferred time for its recitation? And what is the number of verses that are read each time? May Allah reward you with good?
Answer: There is no fixed limit for this. Rather, the most suitable and best for the believer is to seek out the times that suit him, when his heart is present and he is free, able to reflect and comprehend. If a time that suits him becomes available, whether at night or during the day, he should do so; because people differ in these matters. So whoever has a time during the day that suits him, he should do so, and whoever is [active] at night, likewise. The general rule is that people differ in their times. And for the one whose times are convenient for him, the night is better; because it is more gathering for the hearts, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Muzzammil:6].
So the night is more gathering for the heart if one studies in it or memorizes in it. Likewise, after the Fajr prayer, before one becomes occupied with the affairs of this world, is a suitable time. But if he has occupations, let him look for the suitable time for him, in which he is freer than at other times and in which his heart is more gathered, so that he reads a recitation to which he has turned his attention, has made it present in his mind, and has gathered his heart in it, not [merely] in memorization or in a recitation that continues and he recites it for the sake of seeking reward. So let him specify the suitable time in which his heart is present and his occupation is little. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.

Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words.
