What is the virtue of reading the Qur'an and learning it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We conclude this session with you, with the third question from this questioner, Umm Abdullah. She says: Your Eminence, what is the virtue of reading the Qur'an, learning it, memorizing it, and teaching it? And is it permissible for elderly men and women to read the Qur'an despite some distortion of the verses, such as raising a noun that should be in the accusative case, or putting a noun in the genitive case that should be in the nominative case, and so on, due to their inability to pronounce correctly? Is this permissible or not?
May Allah reward you.

Answer:
Reading the Qur'an is among the best of deeds and among the best of acts of drawing near to Allah. It is prescribed for the believing man and the believing woman to read the Qur'an frequently. It is prescribed for every believer, male and female, for the man and the woman, the elder and the young, the old and the young, to read the Qur'an frequently. It contains great good and great benefit, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: :
Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable
[Al-Isra: 9]. And He said:
Say, "It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure."
[Fussilat: 44]. And He said:
And this [Qur'an] is a Book We have revealed [which is] blessed, so follow it and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.
[Al-An'am: 155]. And He said (Exalted and Majestic is He):
This [Qur'an] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God and that those of understanding will be reminded.
[Ibrahim: 52].
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Read this Qur'an, for it will come as an intercessor for its people on the Day of Resurrection.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If anyone recites a letter of God’s Book he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward
Mishkat al-Masabih 2137
He was one day sitting with his Companions, and he said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Would any of you like to go to Batahan,
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 3:144
a valley in Madinah
and return with two large camels, without committing a sin or severing family ties?
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 23:160
They all said: Every one of us loves that. He said:
Does not one of you go out in the morning to the mosque and teach or recite two verses of God’s Book? That is better for him than two she- camels, and three verses are better for him than three she-camels, and four verses are better for him than four she-camels, and so on than their numbers in camels.
Mishkat al-Masabih 2110
So the Sunnah for everyone is to read the Qur'an frequently, for the woman and the man, the old and the not old. Even if some distortion occurs, it does no harm. She should strive, and the man should strive until he straightens his tongue. Yes.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever reads the Qur'an and is proficient in it, he will be with the noble, honorable angels. And whoever reads it and it is difficult for him and he stumbles over it, he has two rewards.
This contains great virtue. He has two rewards if he reads the Qur'an while stumbling over it, because he is not a memorizer of it. He sits to read it to learn. He has two rewards. So the woman learns and the man learns. He stops and does not rush until he understands the verse, until he understands the letter, until he straightens the word. He learns. And if he has someone who can teach him, that is a great good. He says, "O so-and-so, listen to me," or "O so-and-so," she says to her sister, "Listen to me," if she understands from her. They cooperate in righteousness and piety, each one helping the other. Or to her husband, if her husband reads better than she does, she reads to him, or to her mother, or to her sister, or the like. This is from cooperating in righteousness and piety. And if she makes a mistake in recitation today, then tomorrow, if Allah wills, she will not make a mistake through learning. May Allah guide them all. May Allah reward you...
