Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence, the questioner from Libya asks: What is the ruling in Islam regarding the length of the marriage period, meaning from Saturday to Sunday of the second week?
Knowing that this duration is among the customs and traditions with us, and what is the ruling on singing at celebrations and the use of drums?
May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
If a man marries a woman and has no other wife, he resides with her permanently, praise be to Allah. He spends the night with her permanently. She has one night out of four, and one day out of four days. However, if he married her in addition to another wife, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made his ruling clear. If a man marries a woman in addition to a woman, and the newly married woman is a virgin, he stays with her for seven nights, giving her seven nights exclusively, then he rotates; each one has a night after the seven. And if the new wife is not a virgin, but a previously married woman, he stays with her for three nights, giving her three nights exclusively, then he rotates between them, giving each one a night, and he is just between them. This is if he has a wife and marries another wife; if the new wife is a virgin, he stays with her, meaning he gives her seven nights exclusively, then he divides between them. And if the new wife is a previously married woman who was married before him, he gives her three nights exclusively at first when he marries her, then he rotates, a night with this one and a night with that one, being just. The daytime is also divided justly between them.
But if he has no one but her, he is with her all nights and days, praise be to Allah. Yes.
The presenter: Praise be to Allah, may Allah reward you.
