The Ruling on Justice Between Wives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: A man has two wives. One of them fulfills the duties of the husband, the home, and the children, while the other does not fulfill any duty to her husband, her children, or her home, and instead relies on the maid.
So, does this woman who does not fulfill her husband's right have the right to demand equal division of nights and financial maintenance, just like the second woman who fulfills everything Allah has made obligatory for her toward her husband? And does the husband commit a sin by being equal between the two wives in financial maintenance and division of nights? Or should he continue doing so, knowing that the woman who is negligent in her rights is not expected to improve, as she has been in this state for a long time?

Answer: It is obligatory for the husband to be just between the two wives or wives, and to provide for each of them according to her need and the need of her children, in a good manner; because of the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
And live with them in kindnessوَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
. And if any of them is negligent in his right, or in the right of the children, it is obligatory to advise her and direct her to good. It is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said in his sermon during the Farewell Pilgrimage, in explaining the rights of wives:
And they are entitled to their food and clothing in a good mannerولهن رزقهن وكسوتهن بالمعروف
May Allah guide them all.
