Q3: A man married a woman, then he traveled to a country and stayed there until he married another woman as well. He did not bring the first woman to him, and he stayed with the other woman for months. Then he came to the first woman. Does the man have to make up the months he spent with the second woman for the first woman, or does he start the rotation?
A3: It is the Sunnah that if a man marries a wife while he already has another wife, he stays with the second wife for three days if she is a previously married woman, and seven days if she is a virgin. After that, he begins the rotation and treats them equally. Whenever he is absent from one of them for a period, he makes up that same period for the other, if that is feasible, unless the one with the right waives her right or part of it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
