The Myth of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) Hand Extending to Greet al-Rafai

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener: Muhammad Sa'id from Damascus sent a message saying: I once read that Ahmad al-Rafai, when he performed Hajj to the Sacred House and went to visit the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mosque, recited two verses of poetry praising the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which included:
So extend your right hand so that my lips may attain it

The narrator says: Then the hand of the noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) extended from the grave for Shaykh Ahmad to kiss it. Although I am not convinced by this mythical story, I hope you will clarify this for the people who have been saturated with it to the point of conviction.
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
This story is invalid, this story is invalid, and it is a myth, having no origin and no basis. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not extend his hand to anyone after his death, nor did he speak to anyone (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, it is stated in the hadith:
If any one of you greets me, Allah returns my soul to me and I respond to the greeting.ما من أحد يسلم علي إلا رد الله علي روحي، حتى أرد عليه السلام
Sunan Abi Dawud 2041Hasan (Al-Albani)
It does not state that he hears the response; rather, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) responds to whoever greets him, either directly or through the angels, as in the other hadith:
Indeed, Allah has angels who move about, conveying to me the greetings of my Ummahإن لله ملائكة سياحين، يبلغوني عن أمتي السلام
And when he (peace and blessings be upon him) returns the greeting, it does not mean that the Muslim hears it, but rather that he returns the greeting, either absolutely or through the angels who convey the greeting to him (peace and blessings be upon him). And in the other hadith:
But invoke blessings on me, for your blessings reach me wherever you may be.صلوا علي، فإن صلاتكم تبلغني حيث كنتم
Sunan Abi Dawud 2042Sahih (Al-Albani)
And in the other wording:
For your greetings reach me wherever you areفإن تسليمكم يبلغني أين كنتم
As for him extending his hand to anyone; this is something with no origin, rather it is false. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
